Preface (As written by A Shtern). Very recently, ecologists at Environment Quebec have begun to observe a sharp decline in the Red Fox population in Quebec and the Montreal area. Although not officially on a watch list, the Red Fox may unfortunately join other endangered species in the very near future. The Red Fox has made Meadowbrook home before Man ever treaded foot there.

Tout récemment les écologistes d'environnement Québec ont commencé à constater un déclin rapide de la population des renards roux au Québec et dans la région de Montréal. Même s'il n'est pas officiellement sous surveillance, le renard roux pourrait malheureusement rejoindre les autres espèces menacées dans un avenir rapproché. Le renard roux avait choisi Meadowbrook comme habitat longtemps avant que l'homme n'y ait posé le pied.

Hugh Doherty_s memories of Wentworth Golf Club(Meadowbrook was known as Wentworth before 1970)
Les souvenirs de Hugh Doherty du club de golf Wentworth (Meadowbrook était connu sous le nom de Wentworth avant 1970)

Hugh Doherty has a Web Page about his grandfather, George MacDonald who played at Meadowbrook when it was called Wentworth Golf Club. He remembers playing there as a teenager, back in the early 50's. George_s wife, Millie, was ladies_ captain of the club in 1950.

"I caddied for my grandfather", says Hugh _and he let me swing clubs and hit some balls when we were out on the course.

His impromptu coaching and informal lectures on the rules and etiquette of golf, given out there on the old Wentworth course more than half a century ago, were the only golf lessons I ever had. I have played the game off and on ever since, up until a few years ago, never getting very good at it, but always glad to be out on the links.

On those rounds when nothing seemed to go right, I would hear again his voice in my ear "Now Hughie, keep your left arm straight and your head down._"

Il se souvient d'y avoir joué comme adolescent durant les années 50. Millie, la femme de George, était capitaine des dames du club en 1950.

"J'ai été caddie pour mon grand-père" affirme Hugh "et il me laissait donner des coups et frapper quelques balles lorsque nous étions sur le terrain."

Ses leçons impromptues et son enseignement informel sur les règles et l'étiquette du golf, donnés là-bas, sur l'ancien terrain de golf de Wentworth il y a de cela plus d'un demi-siècle, ont été mes seules leçons de golf. J'ai joué à l'occasion depuis ce temps là et jusqu'à il y a quelques années sans jamais m'améliorer pour la peine mais toujours heureux de me retrouver sur les terrains de golf.

Et les fois où rien ne semblait vouloir marcher comme il faut, j'entendrais sa voix de nouveau dans mon oreille qui disait "Bon, allons, Hughie, le bras gauche bien droit et la tête baissée"
