Presentations about Meadowbrook during Montreal’s public consultation

Thank you to those who took the time to draft and present briefs to the commission at city hall for the public consultation on the Montreal urban agglomeration and land use development plan. This plan will serve as a reference for city planning and decision-making by our councillors and mayor. Many briefs mentioned Meadowbrook, an indication of the significant interest in this plot of nature and of its importance to Montreal citizens.

Press conference: Réal Ménard’s war on the environment

Les Amis du Parc Meadowbrook held a press conference at 10 am Wednesday November 12. Recent disclosures of secret plans for building on Meadowbrook and Réal Ménard’s private negotiations with the developer Groupe Pacific raise alarm bells for the environment and the democratic process in Montreal. Mr. Ménard is a member of the Executive Committee and is the Responsable du développement durable, de l’environnement, des grands parcs et des espaces verts for the Island of Montreal. As such, he is charged with the protection of green spaces and he should not aid in their destruction.

Meadowbrook: Le gain politique à court terme vs Montréal avait raison de rejeter le plan de développement

Le vendredi 26 novembre, Raphael Fischler a publié un article dans The Gazette dans lequel il soutient que la ville de Montréal a choisi le gain politique à court terme au lieu du progrès social, économique et environnemental à long terme qui, pour Fischler, est représenté par la construction résidentielle sur Meadowbrook. L’argument contraire par Bernice Goldsmith, publié dans The Gazette du 1er décembre, soutient qu’il est erroné de détruire des espaces verts pour y construire des résidences « vertes » et que la ville avait raison de rejeter le plan de développement de Meadowbrook.

Short term political gain vs. Montreal was right to reject plan to develop Meadowbrook

On Friday, Nov. 26th Raphael Fischler’s Op-ed article appeared in the Gazette arguing that the city of Montreal is choosing short-term political gain over long-term social, economic and environmental progress, which to Fischler means developing Meadowbrook.  The counter argument by Bernice Goldsmith published as a Gazette Op-ed on December 1st, is that it is wrong to destroy green spaces to build green housing and the city was right to reject the plan to develop Meadowbrook.
