Our Organization
We are Les Amis de Meadowbrook (Les Amis), a committed group of citizens affiliated with local and national environmental groups devoted to protecting natural spaces.
Our mission is to protect Meadowbrook against development and to transform it into Meadowbrook Park, a new 57-hectare nature park open and accessible to all residents of the island of Montreal, connected through a greenway to a network of parks including the falaise Saint-Jacques. Meadowbrook is essential to the creation of the greenway of the greater south west.
Les Amis was founded in 1989 by a group of concerned citizens from the adjoining neighbourhoods in Montreal West, Cote Saint Luc and Cote Des Neiges Notre dame de Grace, (CDN-NDG).
Les Amis concentrates most of our activities around Meadowbrook, a 57-hectare green space, situated in the south-west of the island of Montreal. Half of the golf course is situated in the city of Cote Saint Luc, the other half is in the borough of Lachine bordering on its north-eastern side along the town of Montreal West.
For over 26 years, Les Amis has been successful at holding off development of Meadowbrook’s land through targeted and focused interventions. These have included presentations at local and regional city hall council meetings, including: Cote Saint Luc, Montreal West, City of Montreal, Montreal Urban Community from 1989 to 2000 and Agglomeration of Montreal from 2001-2010.
Since 1989 Les Amis have produced many briefs and papers to various public hearings, have organized citizens’ forums and conferences, and have held numerous media press conferences and interviews and are featured in several Pimento Report videos. Most recently, Les Amis mission is supported and endorsed by many recognized environmental groups: Conseil régional de l’environnement de Montréal (CRE), David Suzuki Foundation, Stephen Guilbeault, Equiterre, Green Coalition, Greenpeace, La Direction de santé publique de Montréal and Heritage Laurentien and Sierra Club Québec.

The Campaign History of Les Amis de Meadowbrook is an inspiring chronicle that gives the reader an understanding of how, for twenty-one years a community environment group has persisted in their mission. It is the history of a small group of citizens’ determined effort to maintain Meadowbrook, and how they continue to achieve their objective at each stage.
